Thankfully September has brought with it a return to the normal seasonal weather , still mild but with a lot more of the wet stuff falling. The meadow is coming back to life with the signs of green shoots. The return to normality has also seen an increase in visitors to the hide both from our feathered and furry friends.

The not so Famous Five……..

This week we released five orphaned fox cubs at the hide. They have been cared for at a local rescue centre since early spring.

These young foxes have been ready for their new life back in the wild for some time now. The release date had to be postponed a couple of times due to the prolonged heat wave.

We are supplementing their diet with a little dry food and fresh eggs for the next few days, this short clip was from last night with one of the foxes looking for an egg hidden around the ponds at the hide !

Hog Update

Mum and the baby hoglets are all doing just fine and we expect them to return for release into the garden in the next couple of weeks……

Meet the Gang

There is only one place to start this week’s roll call and that’s with the mammals. Two of the five Fox cubs released have been spotted at the hide , still together as they navigate their return back to life in the wild. Then we have the Rabbits , Rat pack , Bank vole and Grey Squiirrels. It’s always a little worry when you add five apex predators at the same time into the wild but the foxes seem to have dispersed , time will tell !

Then we have the feathers , The Robin family are back in numbers with at least 10 individual birds around the feeders and ponds. Then we have the tit families with Great tits , Blue tits and Long-tailed tits. Next up its the Chiffchaff , Chaffinch , Wren , Dunnock and Wren. The list is completed by the Wood :Pigeon , Blackbird , Pheasant and Magpie.
