Wow, where has the time gone , August already and here in the uk we are still in the grip of an extended period of hot weather. The occasional water run to the meadow has become an almost weekly event . A full pond of water only lasts a few days due to evaporation so keeping the water topped up has become a little bit of a battle.
One development here at the meadow is the installation of a couple of trail cameras . It has given us a glimpse into life at the ponds after the humans have left. And the results have surprised us ! The first batch of images taken over a five day period had over 2,000 recordings which we are still working through. All the usual suspects are present , including the local Tawny Owl and a Sparrowhark. I will post more on the results when we have finished reviewing all the clips.

Highland glen sees first wild-born beavers in 400 years
Conservationists say Glen Affric in the Highlands has its first wild-born beavers since the animals died out in Scotland more than 400 years ago.

Kicking off this week’s list we have the Grey Squirrel gang , all looking a little soggy. Then we have the ever increasing Rat Pack , the Rabbits , a male Roe deer , the cute little Bank vole and a couple of Foxes.
Next up the smaller woodland birds , we have the tit families , Blue tits , Long-tailed tits and Great tits. The ever present European Robins, chaffinchs . Moving on we have the Wren , Goldfinch , Dunnock , Bullfinch .
Last but not least , the larger birds including the Blackbird , Jay , Greater Spotted Woodpecker and Pheasant. And last on the list this week we have the Red kite , circling above the meadow.
