This year, Winterwatch will be based in a new location: the National trust’s Mount Stewart, on the shores of Strangford Lough in County Down, northern Ireland. With Chris Packham , Michaela Strachan and Iolo Williams returning as the presentation team.
Filmed on location , Strangford Lough is the UK’s largest sea lough (or lake) and one of Europe’s key wildlife habitats, stretching from Angus Rock at its mouth on the Irish sea, to the vast sand-flats at its northern end 20 miles away, making it the perfect place for Winterwatch to set up camp.

Tell the presenters how to pronounce Lough. There’s no k in it and it’s not difficult! Only Iolo get’s it right!

to elaborate on the views that I made yesterday, I have really enjoyed tuning into the various goings-on throughout the day. However last night(Thursday) I noticed something strange.
At the beginning of the week, all the fallen trees were pretty bare of vegetation, with only ferns and other creeping plants hanging over them. But since the heavy wind and rain, the trunks became covered with moss and the Alpha badger had began eating it for sustenance… although some of the others probably followed suit.
Have you heard of mammals doing this on the mainland, or is it a local thing? I haven’t seen it before on any previous editions of the Watch. Perhaps on Friday if it stays dryish you’ll finally catch a live glimpse of the elusive otter- if that river washes through of muck.
