Canon’s R6 body has now been updated and the full-frame mirrorless model gets even better, with an upgraded 24MP sensor and improved AI subject detection autofocus. We have been testing the new body for the past few weeks and comparing the performance to our kit cameras the Canon R5.

So what’s in the box , the R6 MKII camera , LP-E6NH battery pack and charger and cable.

The EOS R6 Mark II is very similar to its predecessor. This is a good thing, as the R6 handled exceptionally well. In terms of build, we get the same magnesium alloy chassis and glass fibre-reinforced polycarbonate shell. The grip gives the camera gives a secure hold and feels well balanced in the hand and the body is fully weather sealed. The controls have a familiar layout with the exception of the power switch which is now located on the right hand side.

So how does the R6 compare to its big brother the R5 ? Well initially the answer is very good. I have a few issues with the layout of the controls. The rear is almost identical to the R5 both in looks and layout. It definitely feels a solid and well constructed piece of kit. The top panel has taken some getting use to , i miss the top display screen and the right hand side with its on off switch seems a little cramped , especially with my fat fingers.

Picture quality is actually very good, and compares favourably with the R5 , the first image below was taken with the R5 , the second with the R6 . Both images used the same lens and camera settings.

The R6 menu layout is intuitive, easy to use , with more shooting options and filters available from the main dial and rear touch screen. It’s a simple task to change the settings and easy to navigate around the camera controls. Pre programmed options include Portrait , Group , Landscape , Panoramic , Sports , Kids, food and more.

The camera also has a filter menu , offering the possibility to apply different effects to your image including Background blur , Toy mode , Miniature effect , Fish eye , soft focus and more. In fact there are so many options making this camera ideal for anyone who creates content for online viewing.

Switch the camera into any of the traditional settings , Manual , Shutter priority etc and the camera truly comes alive . Easy to adjust whilst shooting and with customisable controls , there’s enough input to keep serious clickers happy. Use the camera with most of canons RF series lenses and you also get the benefit of the lenses custom control ring. So in short this camera has enough shooting options to keep everyone happy from beginners right through to seasoned photographers .

So would I recommend this camera , the answer is yes . Well constructed with a solid feel , plenty of shooting modes to keep every one happy and packed with useful features. Coupled with a big performance and image quality , great battery life and a reasonable price .
