REVIEW – CEYOMUR TRAIL CAMERA

CEYOMUR CY60 & CY65 TRAIL CAMERA
REVIEWED BY ANNE HANSCOMB

Woohoo I’ve received two early birthday presents …. A Ceyomur CY60 and the  CY65. They are supposed to be easy to set up so here goes. On opening the boxes , they look straightforward and luckily the instructions for English are at the start of the small booklet.

Batteries – the instructions state they recommend Energiser so that’s what I am using.

SD cards …….here I’m thinking I am totally a novice here and don’t understand what they mean by class 6 ? Still none the wiser when I get to the shop as 6 is not on any packaging. Purchased 2 SD cards but they didn’t work ……. Will explain why ……the instructions state SD card but I have purchased mini SD with adapters and these cameras don’t like them ( BUT IT DIDNT SAY THAT IN THE BOOKLET but it does online so I guess you need to research everywhere not just the instructions ,)
First mistake done so had to long term borrow 2 SD cards from my husband … luckily he has loads and won’t miss 2 I hope.

Anyway CY65 is ready to finish setting up in the app ….
It looks too easy … connect to Bluetooth ( all this does is let you turn on the WiFi )  Then you connect to the WiFi ( you will need to stop using home WiFi and swap to the camera WiFi whilst doing this …….don’t forget to swap back later !)  Then you press the + button and hooray you should get a tick ✔️ Then you can set up by pressing the settings icon – photo and video or just photo or just video – I set up to do both but left the other settings unchanged for now . I may change some others within the app over the next few days but the default settings are a good starting point. That’s it until you want to view any photos or videos.

A few hours later I decided to have a look at what it had been doing…..
So I don’t have to open the camera …actually the camera is in the garden and I’m stood at the window inside the house- I’m liking this idea and although it’s a sunny day I’m thinking this will be so handy in the rain or snow and even more so if we end up placing the cameras high up.

Open the app  , Connect to Bluetooth . Then change my WiFi to the camera WiFi again . Bizarrely it says no internet connection so I press forget connection and reconnect adding in the password …..it still says no internet connection but I choose to ignore that go back into the app and press the + button and hooray get a tick ✔️. Now the fun starts pressing the button bottom left I go into device and although a YouTube video that I watched earlier showed me I could look at the photos and videos in device I am only able to see thumbnails then choose – select and delete or choose select and send to local ( my iPhone ) . I select them all and send them all to local – they did not appear in photos in my iPhone …they appear within the app by pressing the local tab rather than device tab.
After opening each in local I can then view them fully , email them or press save to photos when hooray they will arrive in my photos app on my iPhone .

This is only photos ….remember I selected photos and videos when I set it up so I now have to press the slider at the bottom of the app to video and repeat the process sending them all to local to view them and then decide which to delete and which to send to my photos app.

I’m enjoying looking through the photos and videos and impressed with the quality ( not having changed any settings yet ). Although I am a little concerned that it could take a while if I cannot master how to view more than a thumbnail version in the device tab within the app.
I have fired off a message to Ceyomur to see what I’m doing wrong .
So tonight is the first night and I’ve moved the cameras to see what is going on in the garden overnight
.

So I’m thinking without an app and WiFi will this be easier or harder to set up? Batteries – again I have used 8 Energizer batteries as recommended . I will also admit to saying I had to take a photo of the battery cover which shows you how to put them in but the markings are not that clear so I magnified a photo to check they were correct  SD card – I again have no idea what the class 6 means and again find a mini SD card with an adapter is useless . However I would say using a normal SD card was a little fiddly to slot in despite putting it in the same way as the diagram ….it took a few attempts to get it to click and stay in place.

The set up of date and time was easy and this time it did ask to format the SD card which I did by pressing the ok button. That’s it ! Really simple but I’m also wondering if it’s actually taking any photos or videos as I can’t check as easily as the CY65. I wait until the following day to see if I have set it up correctly and what the results are .

I think they both work really well , it may take a few days to tweak the settings to what I want and honestly I guess that will be easier on the CY65 within the app. I could also change them throughout the day or change them in the evening to capture things differently at night . Either of these are a great addition to your garden though and if you are considering putting the camera in a not so easy accessible spot, the CY65 is ideal.

Honestly the quality of the photos and videos are so similar that if you are on a budget the CY60 is a great choice.

  1. We have a similar motion camera, not so advanced as this, as we have to open the camera to retrieve the SD card to see what is captured.. We haven’t used in a while, and it takes rechargeable batteries…
We captured the hedgehogs at night, and the many cats taking a shortcut route lol

    Walking the Track.

A picture of a Hedgehog I caught on the camera can be found in my garden blog in the link.. How time has flown..

Your post has prompted me to renew those batteries and look out that camera again…
    Many thanks for posting 🙂

    • My wife wanted a trail camera for her birthday , so we purchased two , yesterday she had to work through over 400 clips 😆😆😆
It brings our camera numbers up to 4 in the back garden. Love the image of the hog by the way . I had to go out a couple of nights ago at 2am and separated two hedgehogs who had been huffing at each other for an hour. Like two naughty boys I put one in each corner of the garden .

      • Wow… 400 clips… Amazing… You have lots of activity lol.. Laughing at the fighting hedgehogs.. lol 🙂 Is it mating season? and whose trespassing on whose territory LOL 🙂

We had a nesting box for hedgehogs.. She started putting leaves in there and went in a time or two, but no babies.. She must have felt disturbed and moved on.

      • They were both boys , fighting over food rights , both just emerged after their long sleep. They both live in the garden. So both were put on the naught step….
