THE HIDE – MELLOW-YELLOW

Blue tit

Well then , that’s it. March nearly done and dusted and almost officially time for spring , at last ! Once again the weather here at the meadow has been absolutely awful with torrential downpours and lashing winds . Apparently another storm is on it’s way. ( To be honest I have lost count of the number of storms , but it seems to have been a lot )

Long-tailed tit

In the news this week , hedgehogs are being relocated from a Scottish island to the mainland , read the full story here. . Also a quick reminder that the BBC new series, Mammals narrated by Sir David Attenborough starts this Sunday on BBC 1 at 7pm

Yellowhammer

Anyway closer to home here’s a quick name check for all the feathers and furries that brave the weather and made an appearance at the hide today. Just for a change I’m going to start with our ever present Tawny Owl .Then we have a rather rare visitor, the Yellowhammer. A quite beautiful looking small bird . Another shy and infrequent visitor the Jackdaw. In fact we had not one but two of these birds visiting the feeders.

Grey Squirrel

Then all the usual suspects, including European Robin , Great , Blue , long tailed and Coal tits. Dunnock , Blackbird , Chaffinch , Greater Spotted Woodpecker, Wood Pigeon and Wren. And for the furry brigade, just the normal gang of marauding Grey Squirrels.
