The Hide – and Seek ?

Back to the hide for another day’s wildlife watching and the occasional photo. If you have been following the blog for a while you may remember our resident Tawny Owl that lived in an old dead Oak Tree on the edge of the meadow. During one of the many storms last year unfortunately the tree came down and our now homeless Owl disappeared. Well good news , i think they are back . And yes i did say they , there are definitely a pair . I could hear them calling each other all day and they sounded pretty darn close , almost above the hide. Despite my best efforts I couldn’t pin point exactly where the calls were coming from so i think it will have to be a late session at the hide to see if they show themselves at dusk !

Once again the pools were busy with all the usual suspects taking advantage of the unseasonal good weather. I think the focus on making sure the feeders are full is starting to pay dividends. Once again we had the shy Redwings , Goldcrest and Bullfinch paying a brief visit , still no photographic evidence but it’s really good to see them in the flesh ( or feathers i suppose )

The usual Robins , Blue tits , Great tits , Chaffinch and Dunnock were all in attendance in good numbers. Together with the Wren , Pheasant , Wood Pigeon , Great Spotted Woodpecker and a single Jackdaw. The red kite and Buzzard performed several flypasts and there was even a very brief appearance by a rather skittish March Hare. And last on the list the disruptive Grey Squirrel Gang.
