REVIEW – NATURESPY TRAIL CAMERA

We have used trail cameras in the garden for a few years . Some have been more successful than others…. Some have cost a fortune in replacing batteries. An update on the trail camera app we were using , caused issues on trying to download some photos . so the research to find a replacement trail camera was started . We can literally have 1000 photos / videos a day/night so a clunky unreliable app is too frustrating.

The timing was a nightmare as we had a few hoglets living in the garden and I was desperate to watch them . I came across NatureSpy and having read the website and seen some footage decided despite the cost being at the higher end of my budget to purchase . They give profits to supporting conservation projects and if I’m being honest that wasn’t a big factor in the decision to purchase . I liked the look of the camera very small, I liked the solar panel & the images on the website all appealed to me.

THE KIT SUPPLED BY NATURESPY

That was 3 months ago and a few teething problems of where to site it and at what angle we now have a good idea of what is happening in the garden , along with some good photos and video . The best part is I purchased a solar panel with it and I haven’t actually charged the device since day 1. The solar panel despite the recent wet wintery weather has been amazing and kept the battery life at full for 3 months – I thought it was in a shady area of the garden !

Despite the initial cost , I feel that the solar panel is saving a fortune and loads of hassle changing batteries every few weeks ( most trail cameras do not recommend rechargeable batteries ) . It’s probably cost less already in just a few months.  So the quality of the photos / videos is always a factor and honestly I’m pretty impressed with NatureSpy . Along with great customer support I received when struggling to get the distance and angles right I’m feeling pretty good about my choice . I’m hoping to move its location soon and I know that could result in a few nights of not quite getting the quality of the footage I’ve got used to but I’m feeling far more confident to tweak a few inches and see the impact .

NatureSpy app is fairly easy to use and I like the fact you can save to the internal photo album and email direct to yourself etc without having to save it first – unlike a previous trail camera .

It shows any movement in the playback section so you can quickly jump to the next saved image and scroll through to a specific time if easier .  We are now looking to invest in another trail camera and am debating to purchase a second NatureSpy or something similar- it’s so hard as I have been impressed with this but now I’m looking for another, do you stick with what you know or look around … if I stayed with what we had before I wouldn’t have tried this NatureSpy trail camera or a solar panel and would have still been buying the worlds supply of batteries every few weeks.

Colour & Infrared Night Vision

Featuring built-in white LEDs and infrared LEDs, the WiFi WildCam 2 lets you conveniently toggle between colour and infrared night vision, simply at a tap on the app.

App-controlled

Powered by 5200mah rechargeable batteries and controlled with a user-friendly app, the Wifi WildCam 2 lets you keep an eye on your favourite garden critters from your smartphone or tablet. Be it day or night, and in HD.

This garden wildlife camera may be small, but it’s pretty mighty. You can place it wherever you like, and its wide-angle lens means you can fit a lot into the frame. It’s your inconspicuous little ally for more targeted wildlife watching than with a regular trail camera. For smaller creatures, they suggest popping it 5-20ft from the action. When the batteries start to feel tired, just recharge the internal battery using the camera’s USB port, and you’re back in action. If you want to go the extra mile, you can grab a WildCam Solar Panel for longer-lasting power.

Mount it anywhere- The WiFi WildCam 2 can be wall-mounted using the provided wall mount, or paired with a specially designed MiniPod tripod.

  1. I bought a Helarctos cam a good while back, used it in the garden for a good while but it is now out in the surrounding area, watching over a Badger sett. I wander by now and again and upload images and videos to my phone. Nothing more needed, love it 👍
