THE DEVON ARTIST

Periodically i receive requests from people who want to use one of my photographs for various projects. It’s always comes as a surprise to me that anyone would want to use my images and i rarely refuse permission , in fact I’m flattered that permission has been asked !

One such request came via my FLICKR account from Paul Hopkinson , also known as the Devon Artist. The result is the stunning watercolour you see above. The detail is absolutely fantastic and i feel absolutely delighted that Paul chose one of my images to paint. Here is a little profile of Paul , in his own words….

I started drawing when I was knee-high to a grasshopper, but I didn’t pick up my first brush until the age of eleven. This was when I first started to paint in oils with my Uncle, Peter Hopkinson, who is a fantastic artist. We used to venture into the Derbyshire countryside with canvases and easels, indeed that is where it all began!

For many years I have undertaken watercolour, oil, acrylic and graphite commissions and have painted portraits, landscapes and also animals.  Below you will see a few of my favourite pet paintings.  It is always such an honour and privilege to be asked to paint someone’s beloved animal.

I now paint as a full-time artist and have over 40 years of experience.  It is great to be able to say that I love every minute of my work.  However, the time always seem to go too quickly when I paint!

I live in North Devon and spend many weekends out and about in the local countryside.  Indeed, when I’m not painting wildlife I like looking for and watching animals, birds and insects in the natural environment.  If you would like to see some of my wildlife videos, I now have a dedicated YouTube channel for them.

When I am asked what would be my preferred subject, I would say without a doubt wildlife!  I love trying to get the life within the eyes of my finely detailed, realistic paintings.
