RETURN OF THE KITE

The Meadow Hide , Thursday 20th January

Return of the Kite

Another day at the meadow hide , not quite as cold as Tuesday , but still blanket weather. The main difference is a beautiful clear blue winter sky. I think a little sunshine makes a real difference, it lifts the spirits and brightens up the soul.

For the first time this year the birds of prey are out in force. Circling over the far end of the meadow , a mixture of Red kites and Buzzards. And in large numbers , one of the circling stacks consisted of twelve individual birds. I have to admit I’m not the greatest when it comes to photographing birds in flight so I tend to just watch , observe and wonder these amazing creatures. And I was so engrossed in watching the aerial display I total missed the arrival of a buzzard , landing in the tree to the right of the paddling pool less than ten metres to my left. Highlight of the day without a doubt.

So who else was at the meadow today , well the full list kicks off with birds of prey , Buzzard , Red kite and Kestrel. Then we have our favourite regulars, the Robin , Great tit , Blue tit , Long tailed tit , Chaffinch , Dunnock and Wren. Then we have the Blackbird , possibly my favourite bird . Wood pigeon , Great spotted woodpecker , Crow , Jay , Jackdaw and Pheasant.
