Weekend Wildlife from the Meadow Hide
It’s the weekend and time for another day at the meadow hide , once again with my wife Anne in the co-pilots seat. Wednesday was just a little too hot , so for once it’s a rare day off that hasn’t beenn spent at the hide . The meadow continues to grow , with the path to the hide almost totally overgrown. Another trip tomorrow with the strimmer is in order. The bonus with the meadows growing so much is that the hide is now virtually invisible from the public path , if you know it’s there you can just about make out the outline of the roof.
Anyway , the wildlife . A good day today for birds of prey with Kestrel , Red kite , Buzzard and Honey Buzzard all making appearances. The Buzzard looked like it had found a carcass in the adjacent field , making a dozen odd trips into the field. The Woodpecker made several appearances and we think one of this year’s youngsters also paid us a visit. We had a female pheasant pruning near the hide for nearly an hour .
The other birds checking in included Blue tits , Great tits , Robin , Dunnock , Blackbird, , Blackcap , Pigeon , Chaffinch and Wren.
The mammals were represented by Grey Squirrels and our resident family of Brown rats.

The ground feeding dunnock’s favoured habitats include woodlands, shrubs, gardens, and hedgerows. The dunnock looks from a distance similar to a house sparrow but the easiest…
