As you may know, my long held dream of owning my own little piece of land and building a bird hide finally came true earlier this year , with a lot of help and support from my wife Anne and my fellow wildlife photographer Graham Stewart.
With the hide is now operational and the landscaping well underway it was always my intention to spend a little bit of money upgrading my kit bag. The options available was to upgrade my current body with some new glass or switch to the new R mirrorless system.

So in the end i have decided to have the best of both worlds. I just love my current body , a canon 5ds . So this will continue to be an important component in my kit bag . But i have now added two Canon R5 bodies , together with both a 600mm and 800mm R lens.

Early days but the few test shots taken with the R5 look promising . The auto focus works. Actually its very good. One of the main reasons for changing to mirrorless is the weight. two full frame bodies and both a 600mm and 800mm lens in total weighs less than my old 5ds and 600mm lens. ( 3.9kg total weight for the R5 bodies and lens compared with 4.7kg for the 5ds ) I nearly always have two cameras with me so the new kit is a huge saving in weight.
Here are a few of the test images taken with the new R5 and 800mm lens.
Just a quick note , the two new bodies and lens were all purchased from a local dealer , T4 Cameras of Swindon. Friendly professional service . http://www.t4cameras.co.uk
