WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY

WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY

by Peter Hanscomb

Here we go again , another Wednesday in lockdown and it’s back to my temporary hide. The garden has been a lot busier in the last few days. Regular visitors include hedgehogs, foxes and squirrels. Wood pigeons, collared doves , magpies , blackbirds , sparrows , great tits , blue tits , starlings and for the first time a woodpecker. The garden comes to life early in the morning with the early birds and late hogs , and again in late afternoon.

One of our regular visitors around about 5pm ( you can almost predict the time ) is a female grey squirrel. Always on the lookout for nuts and any fruit the birds have left behind.

Our regular visitor , meditating in the afternoon sun.

The arrival of the woodpecker was a real surprise. There have been rumours locally that a pair have been seen nesting at bluebell woods , a small two acre wood that’s only around 300 metres due south of my garden. But still it was a real shock to see one in the garden !
